AN INTRODUCTORY COURSE IN WASTEWATER MICROBIOLOGY
Course Number: WWP190910602 (Idaho)
Discipline: Wastewater
Course Approval: 9/17/2019 to 9/17/2021 (Idaho)
CEU's Assigned: 0.7 (Idaho)
Course Agenda: Located here
This wastewater class introduces the operator to the wonderful world of microscopic bugs (and microscopic plants). The microscopic world is all around us and is the predominate means of wastewater treatment in all but purely mechanical plants. This course will start the operator on the journey of learning about bacteria, fungi, algae, protozoans, viruses, how microscopic organisms were discovered, how to identify microorganisms in the laboratory, the metabolism and growth of microorganisms, and factors affecting microorganisms.
This is an introductory course for new operators and for those operators who do not have a basic knowledge of microorganisms. However, any operator who attends this class will learn something new. This class is a prerequisite for classes such as Population Studies in Wastewater Microbiology, Troubleshooting Activated Sludge Systems, and Enhancing Microbiological Activity in Wastewater Treatment Plants.
