Basic Operator Math
Course Number: To be assigned
Discipline: Drinking Water
Course Approval: To be approved
CEUs Assigned: 0.6
Course Agenda: Located here
This course is designed to refresh the drinking water and/or wastewater operator on basic math skills needed to perform his or her duties, whether in the field, in the office, or in the laboratory. This course presents math concepts using various methods because while one method may work for some operators, it will not work for others. People see math through different lenses and this course shows how to solve a math problem by using several different methods in order to reach out to the most operators. While some operators may not feel very confident with their math skills, this course will give them new confidence.
This course will go over "What is math?", units of measure, conversion, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, fractions, biological treatment, flow, chemical dosage, horsepower, and standard equations used in the drinking water and wastewater industry. There will be many examples that will be presented to the group, and many examples for the group to work on in class, as well as after class. We will also be posting problems on the website in the future to allow the operator to hone his or her skills.
There will be a lot of discussion and examples. All are welcome and I look forward to meeting new friends and seeing old ones. The cost of this six-hour course (0.6 CEU's) is $120.00, and of course refreshments are provided.
